Opened in 2005, this may be the better new small boutique hotel outside Bucharest. Its narrow 1890s facade hides a 400 year old building stretching back to a small garden. Rooms are well designed and include several spacious, airy apartments with private views away from street noise.
Brasov, also known by its 'Saxon' name Kronstadt, was settled in the 13th century to become a highly fortified and wealthy merchant outpost of the Holy Roman Empire and then the Austro-Hungarian Empire the end of WW I. The inn and its cellar restaurant face the town's large and bustling central town square restored in recent years.
Perfectly located for a visitor to 'old' Brasov; superior modern adaptation of an ungainly old building with its own praiseworthy cellar restaurant. From inside one could be on Isle St. Louis in Paris.
It's easy to get to Brasov but once there, for a first time visitor, hard to find one's way to the charming part of the old town. 2 1/2 hours from Bucharest via the main Sinaia Carpathian valley road.
